Welcome to the creative collaboration around the theme of ‘an-sisters’. Ansister explores questions around female lineage, be it biological, spiritual, intellectual or cultural predecessor. Several excerpts from various authors on related issues fuelled our thoughts around the project. It is a wide, eclectic mix, that I hope will be of use to collaborators in finding resonance and synchronicities between their own process and the shared space that we are creating.

Our first ‘Kunstellasie’ or Creative Constellation was the ‘Searching for a Saviour’ event that formed part of the Bonolo Botshelo (Fragile Life) exhibition at Museum Africa in March 2004. Many of the artists taking part experienced real joy and commented on the growth they experienced through the wonderful collaborative web that spun itself around our efforts.

For the Ansister Constellation, we felt that a central artwork project was needed to generate a sense of community amongst participating artists. As part of the FACE project, Ansister endeavours to create public therapeutic spaces, breaking away from the traditional gallery/theatre setting, allowing our art to become truly ‘interactive’, fully integrated and a healing contribution to our society.
