University of Pretoria • Social Work Students
Monday 07 - Thursday 10 February 2005
Selected Letters of Appreciation from Hlumelo Workshop Participants.
“My name is Amie Stead, I am a 23 year old student at the University of Pretoria and in my final year of my social work degree. Because YOUR sponsorship, I have been introduced to the area of social work which is already my passion! Thank you! This opportunity has opened me to a new direction in my professional life and I cannot wait until I can get further training in this! Once again thank you so much!” Amie Stead
“I gained a lot of insight into my own experiences, and what that experience in my life meant to me and how it changed my life. It helped me to realize how I can use my body and mind to help others to learn to know themselves and then how to empower themselves. After this workshop I feel powerful enough to go into the world, say hey world I can help someone! I gained a lot of confidence which I can use in my social work as therapy.” Anel Pearson
“S’busisi Eddy Malope originally from Nelspruit in Mpumalanga province. I am a Christian and still a young man who has a passion to be a motivational speaker, to run a child care centre for children in need of care in terms of shelter and I also want to be and educator in the field of social work. I have gained more courage to believe in myself. I have realized the power of expressing myself and discussing general social problems. I have great honour for the US Aid for their financial support and I have to believe it in my heart that everyone who comes across this programme is never left the same. God bless you!” S’busiso Malope
“Elizabeth Maraba from Dieplkloof Ext 3 in Soweto. I am a 22 year old social work student at the University of Pretoria. I have a son and I live with my son and mother. The workshop was an eye opener for me. It helped me to face my past with a lot of courage this time, instead of always fearing what would happen if I challenge it. I feel different now and good about myself, I also realized that I share a lot of pain that I went through with others who were in the group and this made me feel at ease and not weird or strange. Opening up my life to the group through a fairytale made a difference for others and allowed me to be in the moment of my pain and then to release it slowly taking baby steps. Thank you for the financial support and for making it possible for us to experience this workshop. Please do not stop funding FACE reality as it really does allow people to face reality. Thank you!” Elizabeth Maraba
“I am a final year social work student at the University of Pretoria. I have always been at the best student in my class since first year and so I can really evaluate the value and practical use of the workshop. This method will really help me in my community work as I have been struggling and lacking theory, despite my passion to do the best work possible. I guarantee that these techniques will be used in my community work project this year and in my future career. Thank you for sponsoring the tools I need to change this country I love so dearly.” Natalie De Gouveia
